June 21-23, 2018 - Fox Valley Aero Club 5th Annual Warbirds & Classics Event
Each year the Fox Valley Aero Club highlights a unique warbird or classic airplane. Last year it was the Spirit of St Louis. This year as part of the 5th Annual Warbirds & Classics Event, we are going to highlight 100 years of the British Royal Air Force (RAF), the world’s first and most famous independent Air Force. The RAF was formed in April of 1918 by combining the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS). We are asking that all pilots who have RAF historic Air Craft with official British roundels to join us in celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Air Force. The famous British roundel is synonymous with stories of courage, adaptability and innovation. We look forward to hearing your stories about your favorite RC Scale RAF airplane.
This highlighting of British war planes will be in addition to all the Warbirds and Classics that are normally at our event.
This significant group of historic aircraft includes many airplanes that are well known to us all. The Supermarine Spitfire, Sopwith Camel, Sopwith Pup, Royal Aircraft Factory SE5a, Hawker Hurricane, DeHavilland Chipmunk, DeHavilland Tiger Moth, and Eurofighter Typhoon are a few examples.
We are not the only organization celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the RAF. Airventure - Oshkosh will also be celebrating this anniversary.
Included this year, along with the usual awards, will be a special award for best RAF Airplane. We will also be opening our commemorative noontime air show on Saturday with a tribute to planes from the RAF. If you have any RAF airplanes and would like to help open our Saturday show, please let the show coordinator, John Fischer, know when you arrive at the event. Every pilot, RAF or not, participating in the noon time air show will be entered into a raffle to win one of four event T-shirts. These special edition event T-shirts celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the RAF. These shirts will also be on sale for $20 dollars each.
We look forward to seeing you and all your giant scale Warbird and Classic models, not just your RAF Airplanes, at the Fox Valley Aero Club’s 5th Annual Windy City Warbirds and Classics Air Show, June 21-23, 2018. Please register as soon as possible as our event continues to grow.
